* MEMBER OF NEDBANK’S DESIGN LEADERSHIP
In 2021 I was drafted into Nedbank’s Design leadership. The aim was to unpack the strategy for the next 3 years, re-looking every aspect of the tools, systems, processes, squad culture and positioning of design within the bank. With much research and collaboration among the senior members of the team, we repositioned Nedbank’s core Digital focus to be platform-oriented rather than product-specific. This could not have been done successfully without utilised Design Thinking which established a powerful value proposition linked to strategic action plans.
Of course, one can’t do great work without great tools.

- Squad alignment across 13 squads
- Performance management and reviews
- Training – planning and allocation
And Critical Design Thinking.
STRATEGIC CLIENT-CENTRED DESIGN PROCESS
This process was followed implicitly during the Sprint 0 Concept discovery/feasibility phase prior to execution budget being awarded. It ran through a sequenced process in the Discover, Describe, Define and Deliver phases.
I formed part of a triad of decision makers:
1. Product Design Lead
2. Product Owner
3. Engineering/Tech Lead
Together we engaged the squad members within an Agile environment to validate three key areas
1. Customer Desirability – PDL
2. Business Case – PO
3. Technical Feasibility
